A Designer and her mission...

Ryann is the fusing of environmental preservation and razor sharp fashion.
The pieces are built on a base of original silhouettes that play with drape and proportion.

Special attention is given to tailoring and precise design detailing. Ryann pieces are elegant and timeless, while simultaneously being modern and current. The collections are meant to be worn from season to season, never looking dated.

Fabrics vary from season to season, but are all carefully selected for their
richness, sustainability and comfort.

Tie that all together, Ryann, created by designer Raina Blyer, is a guilt free
wearable collection with a downtown punch for the fashion warrior in all of us.

Raina, born and raised in Brooklyn, learned to sew at the age of three from her mother.
She went to college at the University of Massachusetts majoring in Holistic Health, but missed the fire of New York and after a few years came back home.

Unsure what to do next she branched out in many directions. After taking a class at FIT and interning with late designer Michael Sin she realized that she found what she was looking for. What was always a hobby now became everything.

While attending FIT full time Raina began to work at the infamous design house Bodyworship. She worked for designer Arjan Khiani helping sew and sometimes design clothes for a celebrity clientele such as The Rolling Stones, Britney Spears, Cyndi Lauper and Janet Jackson. She loved the challenges of working there and the free flowing creative energy, nothing had ever felt more satisfying, yet something was still missing.

Being a life long environmentalist, so much of what she observed in the fashion industry seemed to contradict her beliefs. As she began speaking to people in the industry about making sustainable changes to their businesses she was told it would be impossible to run a successful business that way. That’s when Raina decided that she had to give it a try, hoping to show that it could be done and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

In 2005 Raina created Ryann as a fashion driven, environmentally and socially responsible clothing line. As the sustainable fashion industry has grown and changed, so has Ryann, but Raina is dedicated to never stray from her mission and to keep learning of new ways to tread lightly on our planet

July 11th Extravaganza for Rural Haiti

The Compound's Second Saturdays Series for Charity continues on Jully 11th to benefit the Rural Haiti Project.  Headlining the show will be world renowned Jazz Player Maurice Brown on trumpet.  

As always we will have more BBQ than ever, vowing to keep the veggie burgers and ribs flowing from the get go with drinks and art for sale.

 

The Rural Haiti Project is a U.S. based youth leadership organization that aims to empower children to become leaders and builders of their communities by conducting programs for low-income at-risk children in rural areas of Haiti. Compound Brooklyn The COMPOUND + Dare to Dream/ Create a Path/ VONY June 6th 2009 !!

The COMPOUND is back in full swing for the summer with even more to offer this year, bringing artists and good causes together.
June 6th, we are raising funds for 3 youth education groups working to keep arts available for under-served youth populations.

We are selling art, serving drinks and firing up the BBQ for the cause.
